Puerto Rican Mami Dance: the moves, the sound and your AI version
By Mami Dance · Updated October 31, 2026
The Puerto Rican Mami Dance is a short social-video routine built around a recognizable beat, open-arm gestures and a playful change of places. You can learn it with a friend or use your photos to explore an AI version.
Start with the original dance
The duo reference linked by this site is @_kenyaad and @brebre’s choreography on TikTok. Their canopy setting and low camera angle are part of the recognizable take. A solo version by @ocztjay is a separate interpretation. Watch the version you want to follow before choosing Solo or Duo.
The name identifies this particular internet trend. It is not a guide to Puerto Rican cultural dance traditions, and Mami Dance is not the original choreographer or an official TikTok product.
What to watch in the choreography
Watch once for the rhythm, then again for the movement. In the duo reference, both dancers open their arms, move through side-to-side gestures and a knee lift, and later change their positions. The final lean toward the camera works because the phone is low and both people remain in frame.
- Upper body: follow the rise and opening of the arms. Keep the timing together before adding bigger gestures.
- Lower body: notice the weight shift before the knee lift. Leave enough space between the dancers.
- Positions: rehearse the side change slowly so you know who passes where.
- Framing: test the camera position with both people standing and moving. A static frame is easier to compare with the reference.
This is a viewing guide, not a frame-perfect dance lesson. The original clip is the best source for the complete sequence and beat timing.
Which sound should you use?
The linked trend sound is the original sound credited to Baby On The Track. Open it in TikTok to check the current listing and whether it is available for your account. Other uploads may use edits or different starting points.
Mami Dance generates a silent MP4. After downloading, import it into TikTok, select the sound and align the first visible movement with the beat. Listen through the whole clip before posting. A short excerpt needs its matching section of the sound; adding the full track without checking the start can make the dance feel out of time.
How to make the dance with AI
- Choose your cast. Solo takes one photo and uses the solo routine. Duo takes two photos and replaces both dancers. It does not keep an original partner when you upload only one photo.
- Prepare each portrait. Use a clear photo containing one consenting adult, with the face uncovered and the body visible where possible. Read the photo preparation guide for framing examples.
- Choose length and resolution. Solo supports 8 or 11 seconds; Duo supports 8, 11 or 15 seconds. The 8-second choice is an excerpt, not the complete duo routine. Both 480p and 720p are available.
- Set the scene. Choose the original dance setting or the setting from your first photo. Photo 1 starts on the left in Duo. Use Swap sides if you want the opposite arrangement. The tool asks the model to preserve clothing from each photo.
- Review and pay once. Check the duration price and photo permission before paying. Generation starts only after payment confirmation. Personalized generation and payments are not open to the public yet.
- Check the result. Review both faces, hands and clothing, especially during turns. Download your video, add sound and apply the AI-content label required by the platform where you share it.
What our real test showed
On October 31, 2026, we tested an 8-second duo using Kie Seedance 2 Fast at its 480p setting, with two fictional adult portraits. The returned file was 8.04 seconds long, 496×864 pixels and silent. The model’s preset rounds the output dimensions; “480p” does not promise an exact 480×854 file.
Comparing four matched-time frames showed both people and their clothing replaced while the canopy background remained. The broad arm gestures followed the reference, although exact poses and timing differed. Generation took about 3 minutes 45 seconds for this one test. That is an observation, not a turnaround guarantee.
This short test does not validate the later crossing in the full 15-second routine, every type of portrait, or 720p output quality. AI may change facial details, hands and garments. Higher resolution gives more pixels; it does not guarantee a better likeness.
Before you post
Confirm that everyone pictured agreed to the use of their photo. Do not present the result as footage of an event that really happened. Credit the original choreography when appropriate, check the platform’s music terms and preview the video on a phone. If generation technically fails, the service initiates a refund to the original payment method; see the refund policy.
